Spiritual Warefare
In honor of Black History Month, I would like to reflect on my understanding of spiritual warfare and how it keeps most of the planet religiously enslaved. I define spiritual warfare as any form of attack on the soul. Growing up religious, I never questioned how or why christianity was passed down to me. Even when learning about colonization in primary school, I didn’t question why the violence inflicted on my ancestors was justified, at the expense of christian conversion!
Fast forward to college, I decided to take African American Studies Classes to better understand my racialization in the US. The theme of colonization came up during one of the classes. I was forced to reckon with freedom fighters who were adamant about maintaining their cultural, and spiritual practices, even in the face of death! Through deep deconstruction, I realized I was going through the motions when it came to church attendance. I was basically repeating what I was spoon feed since birth! But did I consent to this faith? No! Unfortunately, limited autonomy forces most children to practice whatever their parents dictate.
I had to reclaim my spirituality by discovering the divine for myself! Ultimately, this is the most powerful weapon against any attack on your spirit or energy. However, most of us are spiritually enslaved due to lack of reckoning with how our colonized, and enslaved ancestors were stripped of their connection to the divine! We would rather demonize our ancestral practices due to severe mental enslavement that we have yet to decolonize! Without reclaiming our direct connection to God, we remain controlled by systemic forces that are enabled by religious institutions.
Do not let anyone, especially religious trauma, ever lead you to believe that God isn’t within you! That you have to go to a temple, or the pope, in order to experience God! If we are all made in the image of God, what is so unique about an ordained man that isn’t within you? Awaken to your soul!
