Honoring My Spirit Team

I cherish Scorpio season because it marks my spiritual anniversary. It is also the season when the veil between the earthly and spiritual realms is the thinnest. As a self-proclaimed witch doctor, it is my time to shine! I especially enjoy celebrating Day of the Dead by creating an altar to honor loved ones who have passed away.

Ancestral veneration through altar-making is an important spiritual practice that reminds us we are all connected. It is easy to forget that life is as spiritual as it is physical. During Scorpio season, the presence of spirits can be easily felt, a powerful reminder that death is not the end of existence.

Our spiritual team plays an important role in guiding us through our life journey. Ancestors or loved ones who have passed can be a part of our spiritual team. That is why it is important to honor them by celebrating their lives and doing the things that brought them joy. While mourning is an important part of the grieving process, honoring the light of the deceased is just as important.

I acknowledge my spirit team by convening with them through meditation and conversation. Similar to prayer, I like to express my gratitude by reflecting on past situations I overcame that seemed incredibly difficult. It is easy to call on help from the spiritual realms when going through challenges. However, keeping that same energy when things are aligning in life is just as important.

For the longest time, I've romanticized transcending this earthly realm so I can eventually become a spirit guide. That was until a friend called me a spiritual guide, and I realized I don’t have to wait till I’m on the other side to help others spiritually. As a spiritual healer who is experiencing humanity, I have firsthand experience of navigating life challenges. The lessons I learn as I work to clear my karmic debt and transcend this realm will inform my work as a spirit guide in the afterlife.

The difficulty of embodying the spiritual advice I give others helps me appreciate my spirit guides more deeply. May I continue to honor them, not only when the veil is thin during Scorpio season, but throughout the rest of my human experience.
