Spiritual Liberation
As a spiritual practitioner, I am keen on ensuring my spiritual beliefs and practices align with humanity’s liberation. This means addressing the systemic issues that impact people’s livelihood and ability to thrive. Questioning how my beliefs promote the good of all and harm to none is an ongoing practice.
The universal law of love is the glue that holds everything and everyone in the universe together. Embodying love for self and others is a difficult practice because our emotions can easily get the best of us. Unhealed trauma often impacts how we engage with others, so addressing our wounds is an important first step.
Once a foundation of emotional security is established, discernment is required when applying compassion to others. Engaging in toxic positivity, the pressure to bypass difficulty and hardship in an effort to remain optimistic, is a harmful practice. It promotes self-harm by dismissing your feelings and not holding people who harm you accountable.
Since systemic issues are man-made, it means evil is created by choice. We are more than capable of experiencing paradise on this planet, but a select group hoards nature’s resources, capitalizes on it, and benefits at the expense of others. Systems of oppression such as patriarchy, racism, fatphobia, homophobia, ableism, and child abuse can all be abolished.
Spirituality can be used as a liberatory tool when resisting systemic violence, especially when tackling spiritual warfare. Colonizers effectively used religion as a tool to enact violence on our ancestors, and the effects are still impacting us to date. The fact that most people from colonized lands actively demonize ancestral spiritual practices in the name of religion is proof that we are still mentally colonized.
Decolonizing the demonization of our ancestral spiritual practices is a necessity in the fight for spiritual liberation. What are you doing to deconstruct your beliefs and center everyone’s freedom in your practices?
